The Interview:

Tim by RAVE!: The dark techno/rave techno scene has expanded and evolved post-Corona. How do you perceive this trend?

Ayako Mori: Techno is continuously evolving. I believe the current trends include Psy Techno created by Indira Paganotto, featuring hardcore beats, and Neo Rave introduced by Rave Alert.

Tim von RAVE!: What audiovisual vision did you launch your label and music with?

Ayako Mori: My first label marked its 9th anniversary this June. At that time, it was a common practice for DJs to establish their own labels, so I followed suit. I aspired to create a label that could provide support for young, talented artists.

My second label, Kalmary Rec, was founded with the intention of not conforming to trends. It’s more like a personal hobby. The third label, Unbekannt/Label, was created to allow bootlegs to be downloaded for free.

Tim von RAVE!: Which of your own tracks do you enjoy playing the most?

Ayako Mori: Last year, I predominantly played „Asura,“ released on Juliana Yamasaki’s label DCRYPTED. This year, some young people often requested me to play „So Cute!! (Schiere Remix),“ so I’ve been doing that.

Tim by RAVE!: Which is your current favorite track of yours is?

Ayako Mori: „Your Will,“ released by Revoc rec, inspired by Ellen Alien.
„Mama’s Dress“ (Unreleased), inspired by Indira Paganotto.

Tim von RAVE!: Which moments in your career within the scene have been the most challenging for you?

Ayako Mori: Um… that’s an ongoing experience. Trends change so rapidly, and I constantly need to learn something new…

Tim von RAVE!: Are techno events in Japan comparable to those in Europe?

Ayako Mori: Unfortunately, no. However, there are some passionate parties here and there! German techno parties are absolutely fantastic. I think they’re world-class. Lately, I’ve been intrigued by Madrid’s hard techno scene. Also, Colombia’s hard techno scene looks really interesting.

Tim von RAVE!: What hobbies do you pursue aside from music?

Ayako Mori: Ah… my most cherished time this year has been spent playing Candy Crush (a mobile game) at bars. Currently, I’m finding great enjoyment in producing Breakbeats music. I release them under the name Ayako Aries through my labels.

Tim von RAVE!: Does your partner in a relationship need to share the same musical passion?

Ayako Mori: Not necessarily, but I would hope so!

Tim von RAVE!: At which points did you feel you reached your limits?

Ayako Mori: I’m always at the limit. Sometimes I want to give up everything and escape. I think it’s a sentiment everyone experiences, not just DJs/producers 🙂

Tim von RAVE!: Thank you for the interview. It was lovely to learn more about you and your plans. The Rave! Magazine wishes you ongoing success.
